Efforts to Fight against African Swine Fever Never Rests
Taiwan was listed as an infected area of Foot and Mouth disease (FMD) by OIE in 1997. Decades later, Taiwan finally can be delisted from the infected area in May 2020 if there is no swine contamination case reported. Therefore, the efforts to protect our pork industry from contamination are of great importance. In order to keep ASF out of Taiwan, Taichung Customs reminds passengers that carrying meat products into Taiwan is illegal.
Offenders seized with pork products from the contaminated area will be fined for NT$ 200,000 for the first time, and NT$ 1 million for the subsequent violation according to the regulations by Bureau of Animal and Plant Health Inspection and Quarantine. Offenders defaulting on the payment of fines, by the regulations of Ministry of the Interior National Immigration Agency, are liable to be prohibited from entering into Taiwan for 5 years.
